The “A” Probe is a wireline manipulated device that is used to close the dogs (or locks) on a Baker Style Locking Mandrel in order to remove it from the well.

The “A” Shank is used to retain the down facing dogs on a Baker Style “S”, “TS”, “W”, and “Z” Lock, while used in conjunction with a “C-1” Running Tool. It can also serve as a crossover from the running tool to an “A” or “B” Prong.
